Kids Count afterschool programming focuses on reading and building confident readers. We accomplish this through these key programming elements.

• Homework Help - Daily

  • Students without homework engage in academic games and lessons.​

• Social Skills Lessons - Bi-weekly

  • Developed internally using CASEL principles.​

• Character Development Lessons - Bi-weekly

  • Evidence based lessons by Character Strong that build skills like respect, integrity, compassion and leadership.​

• UFLI and Literacy Tutoring - Bi-weekly

  • UFLI lessons are delivered on the individual reading level of each student and focuses on the foundational skills of literacy. Students who have advanced beyond UFLI lessons participate in "Book Club" where they build oral reading fluency and comprehension skills.  ​

• Enrichment or "Fun Friday" - Weekly 

  • Students participate in enrichment lessons provided by community members, Kids Count staff, or attend a field trip around Gainesville. Students learn key background knowledge and new vocabulary. ​
